At this time of day? Well, "time" of day... Actually, I don't know if it's even day or night outside this facility... Anyway, they're probably eating or sleeping. There's a lot of things you can find here - including caves to explore, oceans to swim in, and forest mazes.

What happens if you drown? Or get lost? Or even worse, if all your Pokémon get knocked out..?

I'm not sure... People are usually together, I guess, so I haven't heard anything like that. There's rooms where you can access your PC and heal your Pokémon though, as well as areas where you can feed yourself and live in, so that's a third of your question answered.
